Investigation-Podcast

Podcast is made up of two words which are ‘broadcast’ and ‘iPod’= podcast! People often get confused with Podcast and radio, so the difference is first of all a podcast is available for free and can be downloaded legally on the internet. Secondly, it is up to the person itself when, where and how they are going to create their podcast, so it has more freedom to choose compared to radio broadcasts where they have to stick to daily schedule and mostly talk about music and news.

Since podcast is recorded as an audio file or a video, it can be easily published on websites, such as www.mypodcast.com or www.podomatic.com. These websites have different podcasts that were done for specific areas, such as PC games, Music, Movies etc, and the visitor of that website has the opportunity to listen to interesting topics related his/her own interests, hobbies etc. Furthermore, a person does not only have to go on the internet and search after interesting podcasts, many other music programs make it easier for the user to search after new, interesting podcasts that were posted online.

For example iTunes or Windows Media Player can directly connect to the internet (if there is any accessibility), and is able to show variety of podcasts to the viewer within a second; therefore, the person can download it to his/her computer. The most important and best thing is that once the music program has recognized what type of podcast s/he has downloaded, it can automatically download the next episode of that particular podcast, which means that the person does not have to search after the new published podcast ever again.

One of the advantage of creating a podcast is that EVERYONE and I mean any ordinary person can create his/her own podcast on ANY topic they are interested in, would like to talk about etc. A podcast gives a person the opportunity to speak out on certain topics they feel interested about and listen to what other people have to say about it. In my opinion, a podcast is a way of communicating with each other with humor and sympathy, yet be able to stress out our different opinions on several topics. Anyone can subscribe the podcast and listen to it, since it is free and legal. A podcast is a chance and tool to stress out each individual’s voice to the world.

In this unit, we are examining adolescence, especially here in Mongolia and we are going to create a podcast working alone or with a partner, talking about a topic that is related to the adolescence of the modern Mongolia. It is very important for me to get to know how teenagers are changing over the years and what are they needs, values and believes are nowadays, so that I can learn about the environment surrounding me and relate the topic to myself.

I also think it is important to listen to other people’s opinion in order to differ that there are variety of opinions, believes etc in the world and that we should respect and accept it without any violence and any other harassments.

Since one of my goals is to contribute help to my homeland, I think that this unit is also going to be an opportunity for me to understand how teenagers in Mongolia are and I believe that these researches will help me someday in the future in order to achieve my goal.
